Dear Students and Parents,
The third marking period is finished, standardized testing is over and we are in the home stretch; this is a fantastic time of the year. As the nice weather arrives we are looking forward to some of the wonderful activities we have planned for each grade level. The fifth grade students are excited to participate in a dance, the spring concert and the moving up ceremony.
This is also the time of year where many parents call or write to the school regarding their child’s class placement for next year. Class placement is a complex process that involves the input of many educational professionals and considers many factors. I realize and appreciate your concern, but I will not honor parent requests for particular teachers. I do however; value your input and individual concerns for your child. I will consider any concern or input that you have to offer, if you provide your concern in writing to me before May 9th.
Please, let me explain some of the factors we need to consider in the placement process. In making class placements some variables carry more weight because of requirements due to special needs and State statutes. It takes approximately six weeks to organize classes based on many factors. Some placement factors are: student emotional needs, academic needs, social needs, occupational therapy scheduling, classroom structure, class/grade population, resource instruction, interaction with peers, speech instruction scheduling, special education inclusion scheduling, child study team placements, balance between boys and girls, medical needs, neighborhood conflicts, former teachers of siblings, remedial reading instruction scheduling, access to special programs, present teacher’s input, and administrative input.
In conclusion, your input as a parent will be considered if you send it to me, in writing, before May 9, 2008. This will allow the educational professionals sufficient time to find the most appropriate match for your child. As always, I appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael Raymond Principal

The Board of Education is changing
the way it does business...
- New Committee of the Whole meeting one week prior to the regular board meeting allows the public greater access to the board and its decisions.
- Board discusses its committee work and agenda items in public one week before voting on issues.
Earlier this year, the board held a series of public meetings that featured budget presentations by building principals and district administrators.

From The Guidance Office
Sylvia Rosenauer School offers peer mediation as an option in solving conflicts. Peer mediation is an excellent tool that enables students to settle their disputes creatively and cooperatively. Mediation is voluntary and students choose to work with mediators.
Selected students in grades 3-5 have been trained to be mediators. A mediator is a "third person" who helps disputants solve a problem. He or she does not take sides, but serves as an impartial listener. Mediators often work in pairs (although a staff member would be present during a peer mediation session) to help disputants solve their problems and reach their own agreement. In the process of learning and using the skills necessary in resolving conflicts, students can build life-long habits that will improve all their relationships. Rosenauer’s mediators are enthusiastic about the program and await the opportunity to help each roadrunner nurture his or her problem solving skills and caring spirit.
