Graders Win Big!
On May 29
th
, the 5
th
Graders at Rosenauer Elementary played host to the New York Rangers Hockey Road Trip.
As winners of a year-long contest, students participated in NY Rangers hockey clinic exercises, a puck shooting station as well as races and the opportunity to score goals. The students received a goody bag filled with posters, cup holders, and other gifts. This day of celebration also included a pizza party to wrap up a year, which combined Math and Hockey for some fun learning.
The New York Rangers Power-To-Learn Program included lessons in graphing statistics, logic puzzles and games like Sudoku.
We also determined travel distances and explored time zones to calculate NY Ranger road trips.
The kids received Ranger pens, pocket folders and other cool prizes.
We had a great year (
except for the fact that The Rangers did not win the Stanley Cup
)!

Hope you were able to see the brilliant work displayed along the hallways here at Rosenauer School, all of which was created by our own student artists! From colorful dot matrix designs to authentic African masks, there was something for everyone to appreciate and enjoy!
During the entire school year resident art teacher Ms. Billand guided our practicing amateurs, catalogued their collections, and matted them for proper display in such a way that would rival many works seen at New York City's world-famous "Metropolitan."
Although the exhibition is now closed to the public and artwork returned to the students, we will continue to feature various selections from this wonderful exhibit on our website!!!
Rosenauer Recyclers Find New Use for Our Refuse!!!
For the last 6 weeks, Ms. Millar and her 5th Grade Rosenauer Recycler Team have been collecting and saving used copy paper that contained printing on only one side. Storing their treasure in a large bin, the crew recently sorted their collection by color and discovered that they had over 2 cartons worth of paper that could easily be reused. 5th grader Jamie Reidy stated that "it felt really good to save all of this paper."
After a meeting to discuss how to best make use of this material, the Recyclers decided that they would make notepads for the teachers and staff at Rosenauer. With each pad containing a color cover attached to an abundance of blank pages that can be used for random notes, reminders, daily "to-do" lists, quick blurbs, thoughts, ideas, etc., students and staff alike are learning that we can make the most of our resources rather than just toss them away after one use.
5th grader Lucas Bird made a great comment when he said
"it's really disappointing about how much paper our school wastes. If all schools saved their paper, then we'd really be onto something!"

4th Grade Class Gives Award Winning Performance!
All the hard work and dedication is now paying off for the cast and crew of the 4th grade production
"Blame it on The Wolf."
Weeks of planning, design, and construction went into the development of stage sets and props that were sure to amaze audiences and critics alike. The Hollywood Reporter (the leading industry news paper) ran a review that raved about the performance of all cast members who were guided under the direction of playright Mrs. Carello.
Master of Ceremonies
Griffin Dunn was recognized by the Academy of Arts & Sciences for his wonderful performance as the Lead Narrator. Great job Griffin - you did a fantastic job!
BLAME IT ON THE WOLF - Now Available on DVD!!! All cast and crew have already received their complimentary copy for a job well done!!!
From the PTA:
Thanks to all who braved the elements to come support our 5th Grade Rosenauer Dynamite Chorus as they were lead by choral director Ms. O'Keeffe in performing the National Anthem prior to Monday evenings Lakewood Blue Claws game.
Special thanks to Dr. Raymond - who thrilled the crowd @ First Energy Field by being selected to throw out the ceremonial "first pitch." As you can see in the photo below, the media were all over his return to the pitching diamond after a year long absence!
American History Re-Enacted!
On Friday May 22nd, students from the Rosenauer 5th Grade Reader's Theater performed two plays: "Tea Overboard" & "A Nation Divided."
A mixed audience of students, staff and parents alike learned from our student historians as visual imagery along with the spoken word helped to tell the story of two major moments in American History ~ The Revolutionary War and the American Civil War.
Under the direction of Ms. Wester and Ms. Mergner, students were assigned the roles of common townspeople, U.S. Presidents, Generals, soldiers, etc. in order to bring their social studies learning to life. Not only did the students learn about the history of our country and what life was like during these times, but they also gained an invaluable experience with performing a dramatic production as they were able to study a script, conduct both textbook and internet research, and use their artisic abilities in creating the many props and handouts used for their project!
The Times They Are A-Changin'
After completing their background checks, Ms. Shupin has selected a new legion of troops for our 2009-10 Rosenauer Elementary School Safety Patrol. Trained by the best and respected by all the rest, this select group will now be responsible for student safety in and around our building.
The Rosenauer Safety Patrol has been around for decades and continues to consist of students who have demonstrated excellence in both academics as well as citizenship. They are a unique group of students who will bear the elements of Mother Nature when called upon in order to ensure the safety and security of our neighborhood school.
And to those who have already served - We Salute You!
Friday June 17th 2009
Dear Rosenauer Community,
Wow! I can't believe the school year is over. It seems like yesterday we were hosting Festifall and parents were enjoying the gift auction. What a fantastic event Reading Arts Day was for all the students. Throughout the year students participated in numerous field trips and wonderful assemblies. The PTA did a fantastic job pulling together all of these events this year.
What a wonderful year we have had.
I am very proud of all the hard work and effort everyone has put forth this school year.
All of our teachers had the students working hard throughout the school year. I was equally impressed with the creativity displayed throughout the year.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the fifth grade students for a wonderful year. All the students worked extremely hard this year - showcased by the first place win in the Ocean County Math League Competition. I wish you all the luck in the world as you move from Rosenauer and on to McAuliffe. Based on your effort and attitude exemplified this year I know you will continue to be successful in years to come.
I hope everyone has a long, safe and fun summer and I look forward to seeing all of you in September.
Sincerly,
Dr. Michael Raymond
